VOLUNTEER DONATE

The Center for Photographic Art in Carmel celebrates the rich tradition of photography as a fine art on California’s Central Coast.

Originally known as Friends of Photography—and founded by Ansel Adams, Cole Weston, Wynn Bullock, and others in 1967—the center is the second oldest photography organization in the country.

The nonprofit gallery promotes and displays art for free to the public. In addition to ongoing shows by contemporary artists, the gallery stages an annual international juried and members’ juried exhibit that awards thousands of dollars in prizes. The organization also regularly offers workshops, lectures, and gallery talks.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the gallery continues to host online events, such as portfolio reviews and artist talks.
