Thanks to the passing of the Mental Health Services Act of 2004, the Village Project has been able to help the under-served African-American community of Monterey County. The Village Project serves as “a place where Black people could go to work through the challenges they face and do so with the help of trusted practitioners in the community who looked like them and understood their cultural dynamics.”

Counseling is available for adolescents, families, individual adults, and couples; there are also groups for anger management, grieving, and young women. Other programs include training to take the State of California’s Water Treatment and Distribution Certification Exam for employment; mental health treatment through the Eagala Model Equine Assisted Therapy; and the 12-month Young Ladies of Empowerment Teen Leadership Program.
