DONATE

Created by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors in 1987, the Monterey County Film Commission assists with film production in the area, helping boost the local economy through jobs and education related to film and media.

Each year, Monterey County generates roughly $4 millions thanks to film production. Its surf and natural landscapes have long attracted cinematographers and photographers. Hundreds of movies, TV shows, and commercials have been shot here, dating back to 1897, including National Velvet, Play Misty for Me, Turner & Hooch, Basic Instinct, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Mad Men, Big Little Lies, and Mythbusters.

The nonprofit provides information on obtaining local permits and COVID-19 filming guidelines, as well as help on hiring crew members, equipment and facilities, support services, and even local attractions. Additionally, the organization offers resources to local residents, such as educational programs, an annual student scholarship, networking mixers, and other activities.
