The Sheriff is an elected official as established under the California State Constitution, serving in the capacity of the chief law enforcement officer of the County.

The Sheriff's Office oversees law enforcement in the unincorporated parts of the County, the operation of the County jail and provides security in the municipal court, among other duties.
