Tapped to fill a vacancy on the Gonzales City Council in 2009, Liz Silva has been reelected four times since then, the latest reelection in November 2022.

Born in Salinas and raised in Gonzales, she attended local schools and has remained active in the community as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 81, Girls Inc. of the Central Coast, the Lions Club, the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation, and the California Rodeo Committee.

The longtime councilmember told the Salinas Valley Tribune in 2018: “I have always had an ‘open door policy’ and residents are comfortable calling or texting me, or stopping me when they see me to voice a concern or suggestion. I get the details about their concern, and ask if they’ve tried to contact anyone at City Hall. If it’s something that I need to research, I always let them know that I’ll get back to them and I do.”
