VOLUNTEER DONATE

Across the country, checks and balances are needed to preserve the natural environment around the places where we like to live, work, and play, and this is especially true for the beautiful region of Lake Tahoe.

That’s why in 1987 a group of concerned Tahoe citizens formed the Mountain Area Preservation Foundation to help preserve the region’s character and pristine environment for current and future generations by fighting against development and poorly planned growth.

This member-based environmental advocacy nonprofit primarily focuses on preserving North Lake Tahoe and Truckee’s open spaces, working in collaboration with other regional conservation partners to keep an eye out for Tahoe’s fragile landscape and help maintain its wildlife habitat. Currently, the group is concentrating on protecting places such as Donner Summit, Brockway Summit, Historic Downtown Truckee, Coldstream Canyon, Martis Valley, and everything in between from unnecessary development.

Keeping Jane Goodall’s words in mind, “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
