In 1969, California and Nevada banded together to create the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency to manage the development of Lake Tahoe, which covers two states and multiple counties. The agency—the nation’s first bi-state regional environmental planning agency—is governed by a 15-member governing board and a 21-member advisory planning commission, as well as many stakeholders and members of the public.
