Tahoe Food Hub promotes sustainable farming practices by increasing local access to food.
To help families eat healthy food that is also affordable, the Tahoe Food Hub formed with the intention to create a food system that implements sustainable and regenerative farming practices while improving access to locally grown food in North Lake Tahoe.
Its three major goals are: 1) to support diverse family farmers; 2) create access organic and sustainably grown food; and 3) mitigate climate change by promoting regenerative farming practices such as insulating the soil with carbon.
Since its inception, the impact of growing sustainable food in the Tahoe mountain community and properly dispersing it has been significant. Its Farm to Market program and private donors help keep the nonprofit going while allowing volunteers to distribute food through the Giving Box, Farm Aid, and Farm to School programs. To date, Tahoe Food Hub generates about $1.2 million in local food annually, supports 50 local farms, and distributed 4,500 Giving Boxes in 2020 to provide food relief to local families.
