The Placer Resource Conservation District is an independent, self-governing special district dedicated to the conservation of natural resources. Formed in 1946, Placer RCD develops and supports programs through partnerships with private landowners and public agencies to accomplish conservation goals. Placer RCD provides assistance and manages projects throughout all of western Placer county, covering approximately 1,500 square miles and serving diverse stakeholders, habitats, and agricultural enterprises, from the Sacramento Valley floor over the crest of the Sierra Nevada down to the eastern slope to the Nevada state line.

The River Fire had adverse effects on conveyance systems that supply water to about 175,000 people served by Placer County Water Agency and Nevada Irrigation District. These agencies and resource conservation districts in Placer and Nevada counties are collaborating with private, state and federal partners to repair damage to the watershed.
