Placer County Water Agency is the largest water purveyor in the Placer County. Its responsibilities include water resource planning and management, retail and wholesale supply of drinking water and irrigation water, and production of hydroelectric energy. The agency serves more than 41,000 retail treated water customers in its Western Water System and it also provides treated water on a wholesale basis to other services, including the San Juan Water District, the City of Lincoln, the area west of Roseville, and small systems in the Loomis Basin. Additionally, PCWA operates 170 miles of canals, serving irrigation water for agriculture.
A five member board of directors is the governing body of Placer County Water Agency. Each director is elected to a four-year term by the registered voters to represent the county’s five supervisorial districts.

With the 2025 irrigation season now underway, the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) is implementing seasonal conservation measures in response to ongoing limited water deliveries from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E).
On the week of March 31, Placer County Water Agency debuted its first all-digital annual report online. This new microsite is housed on the agency’s PCWA.net website and offers a transparent look at the agency’s operations, finances, and community impact. The website is visited by thousands of customers each month, so this change will improve accessibility and public awareness.

Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) announced that Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has halted water releases from Lake Spaulding to facilitate ongoing infrastructure repairs. As a result, water reductions for PCWA customers in 2025 are expected to match those implemented last year.
