The budget nerds in the California State Controller’s Office publish several interactive websites  that make it easy for citizens to inform themselves about the annual revenues and expenditures of local governments and special districts, and the annual financial data for a variety of other categories.

Look up your county and city here:

Each website provides an interactive dashboard making it easy to dive down to specific detail, using easy-to-understand graphs and tables.

Did you know that data from reporting counties showed a combined total revenues of $111.59 billion for the 2021-2022 fiscal year?

Or that combined revenues for reporting municipalities in the same fiscal year was a total of $104.84 billion?

Okay, dang, that’s a lot of money..

And it’s your money. As a California citizen, your oversight and participation are built into the system and necessary for the success of the budget process. It’s never been easier to do your part. Which is why we at California Local think the budget data and visualization tools provided by the California State Controller’s Office are One Good Thing.
