Sierra Watch built a team to save Martis Valley, working hard to secure a positive vision and future for the region.

Beginning in 2000, Sierra Watch came together to save Martis Valley. Developers attempted to bring a massive project with a subdivision including 6,000 new houses on both sides of Highway 267, encompassing Truckee to the rim of the Tahoe Basin. Equipped with a team of planning experts and committed donors, Sierra Watch managed to turn back the development proposal and save hundreds of miles of natural land.

Sierra Watch completed a similar process from 2007-2012, saving Donner Summit—not only blocking development, but also purchasing a large portion of the region in order to protect it for generations to come.

Similar preservation efforts have succeeded for Bear River and Dyer Mountain.

From each of these passionate conservation campaigns, one thing remains for certain: Citizens can work together to protect the places they love.

There are many ways to get involved with Sierra Watch, including volunteer work and donations. Through its work, the group wants to ensure the Tahoe/Truckee region will stay preserved for generations to come.
