United Way of San Joaquin County

United Way of San Joaquin County focuses in particular on two issues. One is homelessness—a persistent problem in many parts of California. The other is education. With only 86 percent of high schoolers graduating every year, San Joaquin County has one of the lowest graduation rates in the state.

The San Joaquin County arm of the global nonprofit organization has been around since 1926 and has funneled millions of dollars into local community groups. Its annual campaign raises between $2 and $3 million for programs dedicated to the betterment of county residents. The majority of funds come from campaigns conducted by local businesses. United Way works with hundreds of employers throughout the county, along with volunteers and selected nonprofit agencies.

With the help of NEST (Nonprofit Enterprise Support Team), United Way provides education and training programs to help nonprofits become more effective. The NEST workspace can be used by for one-on-one educational training, group education, retreats, or a flexible setting where nonprofit employees, leaders and boards can collaborate.
