Second Harvest of the Greater Valley, based in Manteca, provides food to more than 95 nonprofit organizations in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties.

Second Harvest delivers food on a large scale, focusing on the healthiest options. The organization receive donations from people, stores, and other food distribution centers. Individual food pantries may visit the food bank once a week.

The organization also provides a program for at-risk seniors within San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. Bags filled with 15-18 pounds of food are delivered directly to seniors at their front door if they have mobility issuess. For seniors who can travel, Second Harvest chooses locations near their homes to pick up from there.

The organization’s roots go back to 1976, when it operated under a different name and was program for seniors. Second Harvest eventually branched out to help all those in need, offering programs for individuals, families, children and seniors so that all can meet their dietary needs.
