Friends of East Union Cemetery is a nonprofit organization that helps maintain Manteca’s more than 150-year-old cemetery. Volunteers donate time and money to care for this historic community landmark.

Friends of East Union Cemetery raise funds that go toward the upkeep of the cemetery. These unpaid volunteers participate annually in spring and fall clean-ups, and local businesses also get involved by donating time and financial support. Every few years the group releases a newsletter about important events involving the cemetery—for instance, in 2022 East Union Cemetery was recognized as the oldest business or entity in Manteca. The current project involves creating space for people who chose cremation. There are niches that can hold two urns, and some that will accommodate multiple urns for families. While the project itself may take some time to complete, fundraising has begun.
