The history of Lodi’s library system goes back to 1907, when the town got its own Carnegie Library. This philanthropic organization, established in 1999, exists to support the public library with the help of donors and volunteers.

The foundation’s motto is “Filling the gap”—which means stepping in to cover the discrepancies between available public resources and the community’s desires for library services. Many residents of Lodi value these services, and the foundation’s support is necessary to meet the demand. For instance, many people use the library’s computers to conduct personal research, submit job applications, complete homework assignments, and other tasks. The Lodi Public Library also offers tutoring, teachings, and training. According to the most recent statistics, more than 4,000 students use the study room and more than 35,000 use library computers. The more donations the foundation can attract, the more resources the community can enjoy.
