The statewide Sierra Club organization consists of several chapters broken into locally focused groups. The Delta-Sierra Group serves club members who live in San Joaquin County. It organizes outdoor activities, conducts meetings and focuses on local environmental issues.

The Delta-Sierra Group is part of the Sierra Club’s Mother Lode Chapter, which is composed of 11 local groups in 24 counties. The Sierra Club’s motto is to “explore, enjoy, and protect the planet,” and local groups follow these principles. Through the club’s active outings program, members can find many ways to explore and enjoy the natural world, while educational programs provide information on how to ensure that natural environments are preserved for future generations.

As part of its activities, the Delta-Sierra Regional Unit has participated in the state’s annual coastal clean-up for more than 20 years. Members also volunteer at two local Earth Day festivals, which educate the community on why it is important to care for the planet and its resources. These events are held in both Tracy and Stockton, on different days.
