Parents by Choice

Parents by Choice is a foster care and youth services organization with offices in Stockton, Modesto, and Vacaville.

This 501(c)(3) organization helps connect foster children to loving families. Individuals who meet the qualifications can apply to be a resource parent. These parents can serve in different capacities depending on need, including Intensive Service Foster Care, a short-term treatment intervention; Therapeutic Foster Care, a mental health-related service during which the parent is trained and guided by a licensed therapist; and adoption.

Parents By Choice also offers Transitional Housing for those aged 18-21 and currently living in San Joaquin or Stanislaus County. Youth learn to live independently but are still supported with necessary services, which may include housing, case management, job search assistance, college assistance, and more.

Another program Parents By Choice provides is the Positive Parenting Program, which consists of parenting groups and support by age group and needs of children. There are groups for parents with kids aged 0-12 who have behavioral problems, parents of teenagers, co-parenting (for those going through separation or divorce), an intervention program called Pathways for parents who have already completed a Positive Parenting Program but require additional support, and Stepping Stones for parents with children who have intellectual or physical disabilities.
