Community Partnership for Families of San Joaquin is a nonprofit group that supports families and youth in the county.

Via several different programs, the organization aims to help build families that are safe and violence-free, equip youth to thrive at school and in the workforce, provide healthcare, help families reach economic self-sufficiency, and create communities that are safe.

It accomplishes these goals in three primary ways: stabilize families by helping to resolve immediate crises; engage families in meeting their own goals through a successful multidisciplinary team approach called the Family Success Team; and involve families that have successfully met their needs in the first or second tier in building nurturing and thriving neighborhoods and communities.

CPFSJ runs six separate Family Resource Centers in San Joaquin County, each located in areas of highest need. Programs are multifaceted. The San Joaquin Bridge Academy began in 2016 and is focused on helping families who qualify for Cal Fresh SNAP benefits move from public assistance to self-sufficiency. The program runs for 18 months and helps adults with career training, job search, and important skills like financial management. Children are matched with tutors and supported so they are healthy and learning at the appropriate grade level.

CPFSJ also runs a youth case management program for high-risk youth, partnering with San Joaquin County Behavioral Health’s Friday Night Live program as well as local school districts and nonprofits to identify youth who would benefit from the program. Other youth-related programs include the Positive Youth Justice Initiative, which works to improve the juvenile justice system, and RECONNECT, which helps high school students reconnect with school after camp or juvenile hall.

Yet another program helps families file tax returns, which can return millions of dollars to San Joaquin families in one fiscal year. In 2022 the program helped clients complete 2,000 tax returns, which amounted to more than $4 million.
