VOLUNTEER
The Gilroy Historical Society supports the city-owned Gilroy Museum, and also serves as a point of connection for people interested in the history of Gilroy and the surrounding area. Closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, the museum is open once again.
The society was formed in 1966 when the Old City Hall, built in 1905, was threatened with destruction. Community members came together to preserve the building.
The group states its mission eloquently: “Understanding the history of our community is basic to our democratic way of life. It provides a view of the development of our state and nation and Gilroy's place in our rich American heritage.”
