The Computer History Museum makes computers and technology accessible to all by displaying the history of computers and hosting events about new technologies.
CHM is located in Mountain View, California. Its mission is to gather, inform, and empower individuals, and the organization’s three foundational beliefs are that (1) history helps inform future technological advancements, (2) technology should be accessible, and (3) technology should be used ethically and in service to mankind. CHM works in four primary capacities to accomplish its mission.
The first is conversation. CHM hosts several talks and civil debates about technology from innovators, entrepreneurs, scholars, and other thought leaders. The second is exploration. CHM’s programs and centers encourage research, sharing of knowledge, and growth. Their centers of expertise include the Exponential Center and Software History Center, while their many programs include the Fellow Awards Program and Internet History Program. The third is connection. CHM’s state-of-the-art and interactive exhibits are accessible to people from all backgrounds of all ages. Fourth is preservation. Their collections range from calculators to robots to old computer chips, and they also host several blogs and publications.
CHM exhibits are open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a general admission fee.
