The nonprofit Youth Community Service engages young people in volunteerism. YCS programs are designed to help youth develop leadership skills, increase awareness of community issues, and come together to take action.
Founded in 1990, YCS is a unique community education partnership between the cities of Palo Alto and East Palo Alto. Its programs bring youths from different backgrounds and communities together as they learn from each other and discover common values of honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness, and compassion.
YCS programs promote emotional and behavioral health for pre-teens and teens in diverse communties. The organization serves as a platform for young people to voice their concerns about their community and provides resources to actively participate in local issues.
