Established in mid-1994, the West Sacramento Historical Society was created to preserve the rich history of West Sacramento.

For many years the group was a historical society; then, in 2005 it became a physical museum. The first location closed down in 2009, but the society opened a new museum in 2011 to continue pursuing their mission to collect and interpret the region’s history.

To this day the West Sacramento Historical Society is still expanding the museum’s displays. The historical gallery includes original fire-fighting equipment from the beginning of West Sacramento, documents, scale models, extensive pieces of art, newspapers, and household artifacts.

This community-based, volunteer organization works to collect the history and evidence of the first families in West Sacramento to connect them with the families that still remain.
