VOLUNTEER DONATE
Yolo Healthy Aging Alliance was created to promote the well-being of older adults through education, collaboration and advocacy and to serve as a unified voice for older adults in Yolo County.
Since 2010, the nonprofit has been connecting advocates for seniors issues and service providers to ensure access to a range of services, including housing, nutrition programs, social connection, health and support services and more. As part of the SCAN Foundation’s Community of Constituents initiative, YHAA aims to contribute to a statewide movement to transform the system of care to help California residents age with dignity, choice and independence.
Operating under a board of directors, YHAA is comprised of two committees: Advocacy and Collaboration. The former aims to discuss and implement strategies consistent with the YHAA Strategic Plan that advance policies, programs and projects that promote the well-being of older adults in Yolo County. The latter includes more than 90 senior services providers and meets every other month to increase collaboration, communication and coordination of service delivery with an additional annual Collaboration Committee cross-training.
Programs offered by YHAA include Senior Technology Assistance and Resources (STAR) program, which helps older adults improve their digital skills; Grab Bar, which provides and installs up to two grab bars in seniors’ homes for free; Mobile Meals for Healthy Aging, a collaboration with local food truck Drewski’s to provide free meals to those age 60 and older; and Phone Friends, which helps seniors stay socially connected.
As a nonprofit, YHAA relies on the support of its community volunteers, who can help out with Mobile Meals for Healthy Aging, Phone Friends, the STAR program and general outreach. The organization also has an annual spring fundraiser and accepts donations year-round.
