The five members of the Board of Supervisors each represent one of five districts. Supervisors consult with many citizen committees and commissions; applications for these appointed positions may be obtained from the Clerk of the Board or any library.

The Sacramento County Planning Commission consists of five members who are appointed by each supervisor from within the boundaries of their respective supervisorial districts. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.
