The Economic Development Office offers various tools for growth in the city of Santa Cruz. The department provides resources for local businesses, and businesses considering a location in Santa Cruz, including permitting help with infrastructure projects and introductions to the business community.

It also takes the lead on complex multi-year projects like renovating the Santa Cruz Wharf redeveloping the Metro Pacific Station, and supports the development of affordable housing projects. And it works with other city departments and local arts groups on arts and cultural events and public art projects.

The office acts as the Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Cruz, taking over its mission of promoting growth and economic development in the city.

Choose Santa Cruz is a flagship program of department, founded in 2015 as a business resource portal to tell unique stories. The organization works on business development, infrastructure and property development and management, housing development and preservation, and public art projects.
