The Monterey History and Art Association preserves and exhibits historical art, costumes and textiles, decorative arts, artifacts and historical archives.

The association maintains displays at the Mexican-era adobe Casa Serrano, which is open to the public on weekends and is available for event rental, and the Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library, a non-circulating research library with a collection of books, photographs, scrapbooks, and other historical objects.

On Friday, May 24, Monterey History and Art Association President Gary Spradlin, along with Emile Norman Charitable Trust trustee Marc Del Piero, Monterey Library and Museums Director Brian Edwards and a couple of helpers, gathered on Tyler Street in Monterey with drills and hammers in their hands.
