Partners for Peace provides prevention and intervention classes for parents, caregivers and youth in Monterey County.
The mission of Partners For Peace is to build strong families in a peaceful community. Through parenting classes, youth events, and other family-building activities, this organization has been strengthening families throughout Monterey County for 25 years.
The Strengthening Families Program is for parents and youth aged 10-16. It is an eight-week program, consisting of one class per week plus an orientation day. Families learn throughout the weeks to build appropriate communication and problem-solving skills. The youth also learn how to navigate peer influences and to be successful in school. Parents also strengthen their parenting skills.
A more intensive program—Parent Project, Sr.: Changing Destructive Adolescent Behavior—is for the parents/caregivers of adolescents aged 11-18. It runs for 10 weeks and focuses on how to positively change and/or prevent destructive youth behavior, including drug use, gang activity, truancy, violence and more. A related program—Parent Project, Jr.: Loving Solutions—is for caregivers of children aged 5-10 and trains them in how to manage impulsive childhood behavior and also focuses on healthy habits for both children and parents.
