King City in Bloom

King City in Bloom is a group of local residents dedicated to making King City and neighboring parts of Monterey County clean and beautiful.

King City in Bloom is an organization based in Monterey County, and is part of the larger national organization, America in Bloom. Their motto is "Planting City Pride," and this group of volunteers works hard to clean up and beautify this town of nearly 14,000 people. Through various projects each year, King City in Bloom strives to improve the environment and quality of life through the use of flowers and plants. 

The group's projects include five points they refer to as "fundamental elements of a healthy community." These include: 

1. Tidiness and Cleanliness—King City in Bloom leads town-wide cleanup days to pick up litter and other debris throughout the area.
2. Landscaping and Trees—This group plants trees and other greenery to brighten the town and help with air quality.
3. Environment—King City in Bloom tends to plants community, caring for them regularly throughout the city.
4. Historical Preservation—Whether it involves greenery or not, this organization values historic buildings and landmarks and defends them by helping to provide for both their upkeep and recognition. 
5. Streetscape Features—From city street pennants to murals all around town, flowers pop up in creative ways throughout King City.

The volunteer group conducted its annual pruning at the windmill—located at the entrance to San Lorenzo County Park on Broadway Street—and at the King City Recreation Center.
