Ag Land Trust

Ag Land Trust has been preserving and protecting farmland in Monterey County since 1984.

With development continually threatening farms and nature areas throughout California, organizations like Ag Land Trust are essential to the protection and preservation of such regions. This group works to protect agricultural land as well as open space and historical lands, all located in Monterey County.

Ag Land Trust was one of the very first land trusts in California designed specifically for the farming community. Landowners are kept in mind with all decisions, and the organization works to raise awareness among farmers and ranchers, as well as the general community, about various conservation tools.

Since the 1980s, Ag Land Trust has protected over 46,000 of agricultural land through partnerships with landowners and the community.

Ag Land Trust uses a process known as mitigation to offset impacts to a natural resource like farmland. By protecting as much as possible, this organization believes that both agriculture and more modern econmical needs can be balanced and function alongside one another. The organization is well-versed in providing mitigation solutions to local government and landowners willing to sell and secure easements to keep things preserved and protected.
