Sun Street Centers

Since 1968, Sun Street Centers has provided comprehensive education, prevention and recovery services to men, women and teens struggling with addiction in Monterey and San Benito counties.

The organization, founded in 1968 by Martin and Nancy Dodd, relies on the “social model theory” developed by Bill Dodd; its central tenet is that recovery from addiction is best achieved in a communal setting.

Though the Dodds have both passed away, their work continues through the efforts of the staff at Sun Street’s facilities, which welcome individuals and families seeking to thrive with a drug-free and alcohol-free lifestyle. In addition to locations in Salinas, Sun Street provides services in Marina, Seaside Gonzales, Soledad, King City and Hollister.

Sun Street Centers offers a range of services that strengthen the community and offer support to those struggling with alcohol and drug use. Outreach, education and prediversion programs strive to prevent young people from falling into addiction. There are shared apartments for men seeking a safe and supportive, clean and sober place. Counseling services are available to residents of sober living centers as well as on an outpatient basis. And Sun Street operates a program to provide education and counseling to those charged with driving under the influence.
