Monterey Country has a long history of supporting far-flung rural libraries, dating back to delivering books by burros in 1916. The Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries continues that tradition to “open windows to a larger world for the residents of and visitors to Monterey County” by supporting 17 local libraries through such events as its Words and Wine annual fundraiser.
