An escalating homicide rate starting in Salinas in 2014 caused great concern among the founders of Future Citizens Foundation. Seeing the traumatic effects of violence among children and youth, Future Citizens Foundation started the First Tee of Monterey Campus and the newer Center for Learning, located in East Salinas, to provide a safe haven for “healthy activities to strengthen their resilience to the gang influence and violence.”
