the Santa Clara Fire Department protects the city and enhances the quality of life for local citizens. Its teams provide caring, customer-oriented service to protect life, property, and the environment. The department operates nine fire stations in Santa Clara; the 10th is closed and will be relocated. The Fire Department also offers information on emergency preparedness, including CERT training, and approves fire permits.

For individuals interested in a career in the fire service, the Santa Clara Fire Department Reserves provides on-the-job volunteer training for potential firefighter candidates. In a normal month, a volunteer can receive up to 40 hours of fire service training and numerous hours of actual incident experience.
