The Gonzales City Council is composed of five members who are elected at large. The mayor is elected every two years, and councilmembers serve staggered four-year terms. The council sets policy and enacts ordinances; votes on the annual budget; hires the city manager, city attorney and city engineer; and approves contracts. Meetings are open to the public, although they are held virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Go to the city website to get access to audio and video of council meetings as well as complete agenda packets that are prepared in advance.

Meetings: Held the first and third Mondays at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 117 Fourth St.
