One of two progressive-leaning members, along with Phil Serna, on the five-member Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, Patrick Kennedy was reelected to his seat in the June 2022 primary.

Background

A fourth-generation resident of Sacramento, Kennedy grew up in his district and later attended California State University, Sacramento and Lincoln Law School locally.

Prior to his election to the Board of Supervisors, he worked for late U.S. Rep. Bob Matsui (D-Sacramento) and former California State Treasurer Phil Angelides and also worked 10 years for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District. In addition, Kennedy served six years on the Sacramento County Unified School District Board of Education, helping to pass two bond measures totaling more than $400 million.

Kennedy lives in Hollywood Park with his wife, Judy, a special education teacher and artist with whom he’s raised four now-adult daughters: Natalie, Courtney, Sinead, and Chelsea.

Select Issues

Health: In endorsing Kennedy’s reelection in 2018, the Sacramento Bee Editorial Board noted several health-related accomplishments for Kennedy, chiefly: initiating discussions for county staff and health professionals to find better mental health treatment for people; investigating reports of hospitals dumping patients; and serving as point-person on a “multi-county and multi-state lawsuit filed against pharmaceutical companies over the opioid epidemic.”

Transportation: Kennedy’s non-county website notes how he helped secure funding for WALKSacramento, a local group “to conduct safety audits and host Safe Routes to School walking and biking events” at four schools in his district. Such work can be sorely needed in Sacramento, where pedestrians can regularly face unsafe conditions.

District Boundaries and Office Locations

Kennedy’s district spans the neighborhoods of Land Park, Pocket-Greenhaven, and other southern parts of the city of Sacramento. The district includes no other cities in Sacramento County, though its borders approach the city of Elk Grove.

Office address: 700 H St, Suite 2450, Sacramento, CA 95814
