The VFW is active across America, working to improve the quality of life for veterans, service members and their families, and to serve their communities.

Members of the VFW Post 9242 meet at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month at 649 San Benito St, Room 204, Hollister, CA 95023. The quartermaster is Ellen Herrera and the commander is George Nava. Dues are $40.

On Feb. 26, Hollister Downtown Association in partnership with the American Legion Post 69 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 held its first Youth Expo, featuring more than 60 different local organizations.

The Santa Cruz Veterans Center will provide counseling services at the Hollister Veterans Memorial Building Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for vets who are troubled by the American military withdrawal from Afghanistan. Bernie Ramirez of VFW Post 9242 said he is pushing to have those services available every Friday.
