Sierra State Parks Foundation provide financial and professional support to the Lake Tahoe-Donner California State Parks for education, restoration, and culture and environment preservation.
As the official partner of California State Parks in the Donner/Lake Tahoe region, the Sierra State Parks Foundation provides financial and professional support for the programs and preservation of the California side of Tahoe’s beloved public spaces. The projects that the foundation funds help connect its visitors with Tahoe’s natural resources while educating them on the history, culture, and environment that make our parks so unique.
Some of its recent accomplishments include the recent restoration of the Pioneer Monument at Donner Memorial State Park and continuing events such as the Arbor Day Tree Hunt. However, COVID-19 has created a shortfall in funding creating a struggle for California parks to stay open. Fortunately, the community continues to come together to contribute to the SSPF Covid-19 Resilience Fund, helping California State Parks bring back furloughed staff back to work to be able to fulfill its mission.
“My grandfather would take us to experience the beauty of Tahoe and I want to have that beauty preserved for my children,” says one recent donor to the Resilience Fund.

From Tahoe Guide...
The Sierra State Parks Foundation was born when a group led by local women of the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, persuaded the Department of Parks and Recreation to scrap its plans for razing the 1903 Ehrman Mansion after it was acquired by the state in 1965. As a result, the concept of creating formalized public-private partnerships to improve the management of the state’s park system was formed.
