Keeping local trail systems safe and accessible, the Truckee Trails Foundation continuously advocates for building and improving a network of bike paths and trails for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
In addition to working with local nonprofits, governments, and HOAs in the Truckee/ Lake Tahoe area to construct trails and assist with master planning processes, the TTF finds unique ways to fund these projects—such as allowing people to adopt portions of trails around the Tahoe Basin and in Truckee. Its seasonal trail crew also helps restore more than 150 miles of single-track dirt paths.
Some of TTF’s past projects include improving and maintaining hiking/biking paths such as the Donner Lake Rim Trail, the Granite Chief Trail, and A1/Jackass Ridge. Its current projects include connecting the River View Sports Park in Truckee to the Legacy Trail and completing the alignment for the Sawtooth to Granite Flat campground connection.
In the year 2020 alone, TTF volunteers cleared 170 trees that fell over on the trails, dug 100 drains, re-routed sections of the Pacific Coast Trail and Summer Lake trails, and installed 54 new wayfinding signs along the region’s most popular roads and nonmotorized pathways.

About a decade ago, former Nevada County Supervisor Richard Anderson spearheaded a project that united trail advocates from across the county to explore ways of creating an interconnected trail network.
Over the past three years, the Truckee Trails Foundation has been striving to bring new trail experiences to the Sawtooth Zone south of Truckee.
