Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone has a long history of involvement in local government that began even before he got elected to his present office, which he's held since 1995. He most recently won reelection in the June 2022 primary.
It all started in Sunnyvale, where the Seattle native moved in 1970. Elected in 1975 to the Sunnyvale City Council, he also did stints as mayor in the 1980s. Stone’s interest in governmental matters led him to involvement in numerous organizations, including the League of California Cities and the United States Conference of Mayors. According to the county assessor site, during his time in office the city of Sunnyvale “earned an international reputation for effectiveness and became a model for President Clinton and Vice President Gore’s efforts to reform the federal bureaucracy.”
The indefatigable Stone has been just as active as a community member, serving on dozens of boards and committees, including the Rotary Club, the YWCA and the Capital Club of Silicon Valley.
