Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) serves to connect the San Francisco peninsula with communities to the east and the south. It is a heavy-rail public transportation system that runs through San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa and Santa Clara counties. BART has 50 stations throughout the Bay Area and carries roughly 400,000 trips daily. Currently a number of institutions, including the new Google campus, are working to bring a new BART station to San Jose.
