DONATE

The Santa Cruz Baroque Festival has been active since 1974, presenting early music as it sounded in its own era. Members strive for artistic excellence while transmitting the joy of Baroque music to future generations.

The Baroque Festival opens audiences up to the world of historic sound. Experimenting with new ideas about old instruments and musical forms, its performers virtually travel through time. Performances are emotionally expressive, with chamber music performed in the improvisatory style in fashion when the music was new. The group educates audiences through pre-concert talks, concert notes, and broadcasts on radio via KSQD’s Community Concert Hall.

Through the Youth Chamber Music Competition, the Emerging Artist Showcase, artists in classrooms, and bilingual videos (in the works), members engage in youth outreach and education. And music fans of all ages can learn about early music with See Things in Context, the Early Music Associaton’s quick guide to composers, players, instruments and musical styles in the Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to present an annual season of early music as it sounded in its own time. We aim for artistic excellence while transmitting the joy of Baroque music to the community and to future generations by engaging our audience in an expedition through musical time.
