Think Local First

Think Local First is a “network of locally owned, independent businesses and community organizations joining together to promote economic vitality and preserve the unique character of our community.” The organization’s goal is to promote and sustain economic vitality by the conscious effort to shop at local stores.

In 2007, Santa Cruz business owners came together with a common concern about proliferating chain stores and rise of online shopping. To tackle its concerns the orgnaization works with local businesses to spread local awareness. From six original businesses at its inception, TLF now has more than 630 business members involved with its movement. The group also started an all-volunteer orgnaization to help the local economy. 

It puts forth 10 reasons to “Shop the Logo”:

8. Encourage entrepreneurship
