The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is a joint powers authority that serves Santa Cruz County and the cities of Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Watsonville, and Capitola. It is governed by a Board of Directors that has representatives from each of the participating jurisdictions.
A 24-hour animal rescue facility, the shelter is the county’s only full-service, open-admission animal shelter, which means no animal will be turned away. The shelter helps residents recover lost pets and adopt new companions, and its work is supported by volunteers and foster care families who assist staff members.
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter opened in July of 2002 with offices in Watsonville and Scotts Valley. In 2008, it moved into a new county-owned building in Santa Cruz at the corner of Rodriguez and Seventh Avenue.
The Watsonville location, at 580 Airport Blvd., is open Tue.-Sat. 9:30am-noon and 1-5pm.
