The Public Defender’s Office of Nevada County represent indigent clients, both adults and juveniles, who have been charged with a criminal offense. In addition, the office provides legal representation for individuals involved in civil conservatorships and Assisted Outpatient Treatment. The office’s team of well-trained professionals deliver services that address the causes and consequences of their clients’ involvement with the criminal justice system.

Keri Klein is the public defender for Nevada County. She has served in that position since February 2016. Prior to that, she was the assistant public defender for Nevada County. She joined the office in 2007.
