The roots of the Yolo County Resource Conservation District were planted in 1955, when the first soil conservation district in the county was formed. In 1977, three different districts (Western Yolo, Hungry Hollow and Capay Valley SCDs) consolidated to form a single conservation district, but with its emphasis expanded beyond soil and water issues to include related resources such as fish and wildlife habitat enhancement, restoration and the control of exotic plant species.
