The society is devoted to preserving the history of El Dorado County.

Founded in 1938 as a private non-profit organization, its volunteers are active throughout El Dorado County. The society’s strength comes from its strong membership base and the annual donations received from supporters. Members receive a free ticket on the El Dorado Western Railroad and discounts on merchandise purchased at the Fountain & Tallman and County Historical Museums.
