On Saturday, a peaceful protest called "Rise Together" brought hundreds of residents and visitors to show their support for social causes: equity for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), queer and transgender rights, disability and access, immigration and refugee rights, women's reproductive health, environmental protection, and more.

The nonprofit Tahoe Fund announced that Shaydar Edelmann, vice president and general manager of Heavenly Mountain Resort, has joined its Board of Directors. Edelmann's resort leadership experience and deep connection to the Lake Tahoe environment will further the efforts of the organization to improve the Lake Tahoe environment for all to enjoy.

Ten local families are one step closer to homeownership with a new low-income housing project in the Historic Folsom neighborhood.

Each year, as citrus trees across the region reach their peak, many homeowners find themselves with an abundance of fruit they can’t use. Rather than letting these backyard harvests go to waste, dozens of Folsom and El Dorado Hills residents have stepped up to donate their excess produce to Twin Lakes Food Bank, helping to provide fresh, nutritious food for those in need.

Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra will join with six cooks from Lasagna Love to sponsor B&B's Adopt A Day of Nourishment, Monday, February 10, and provide a special themed meal for regular guests and any interested community members. Grace Hall at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe, is the host site from 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Two high school students have found a way to give back to young patients and their families at Shriners Hospital this Valentine’s Day. NorCal Gift From the Heart Foundation’s second annual Valentine’s Day Drive is underway, preparing to shower patients and their families with handmade Valentines and hundreds of toys and teen items on Feb. 14.

Deeply involved in ongoing service to the community, the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) sponsored Bread & Broth's Monday Meal on January 13th. With their mission of enhancing the lives of women and youth in their community, they invited members of the South Tahoe High School's S-Club to represent the organization at their Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship meal.

This past week, leaders with the City of Folsom joined volunteers, Habitat for Humanity staff, and future homeowners to raise the walls of the first homes in a new affordable housing community in Folsom’s Historic District. The event marks a significant milestone for the project, which is transforming dreams of homeownership into reality for ten hardworking families.

The Board of Directors of the Tahoe Prosperity Center announced it is searching for a new executive director. Heidi Hill Drum has served as the executive director of the organization for ten years and is looking forward to new and different adventures. The board thanks Hill Drum for her service over these past ten years and is appreciative of her flexibility during the search for a new leader.

Get ready for an evening of indulgence and community spirit as the Tahoe Chamber and Bruschetta proudly present the Connect for a Cause Crab Feed. This exclusive dining experience will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Bruschetta and promises to bring together the South Shore community for a night of delicious food, meaningful connections, and unwavering support for local causes.

Back in August, the Folsom Chapter of National Charity league Inc. (NCL)  held their annual Fall Kick Off Meeting.  The local chapter of the national mother-daughter volunteer organization had over 200 members in attendance.  The group is composed of mothers and their daughters, grades 7 to 12, from the surrounding communities and they are taking applications now for more members.

During 2024, Heavenly Mountain Resort hosted six Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishments thanks to Vail's Epic Promise Grant. The Vail grant funds are awarded annually to non-profits in the communities where Vail Resorts are located, and Bread & Broth has been the grateful recipient of Vail funds to host 12 Monday Meals annually since 2011.
