The Rubicon Trail Foundation educates the public on responsible use of this historic route.

Originally a Native American trail connecting the Sacramento Valley and Lake Tahoe, the Rubicon Trail was first traversed by car in 1908. Throughout the 1920s, the road was being promoted as the best route from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe but later fell into disuse. It has been used by 4-wheel-drive vehicles since the early 1950s. The foundation promotes motorized, year-round trail access.
