Relics from its Gold Rush past are well preserved in the County of Nevada, including the 1865 Nevada Theatre, the oldest theater in California, and the Old 5 Mile House stagecoach stop, built in 1890. The County of Nevada takes up 974 square miles; its western edge is defined by several snaky rivers, and the county’s geography is made up of forest, grassland, savanna, and other terrain. The county seat is Nevada City, and as of the 2010 census, the county’s population was 98,764.
